Walgreens’ new point system would not only help customers unlock in-store and online sale prices, but will also help customers save more on products they normally buy.

Although Walgreens new point system is beneficial to many millennials, considering they can now receive digital receipts, it’s not so helpful to many older adults. With the new upgraded point system at Walgreens, the customer must provide their email in order to access their reward points.

Many people choose not to provide such information considering their emails are “already full of junk,” said a customer who was being assisted in the store. Also many Walgreens shoppers don’t have emails, which means they aren’t allowed to save by using cash rewards.

“I believe they made the system worse,” said assistant manager Mark Elam. Although Walgreens believed they were doing a good deed, many of their main shoppers beg to differ.

With the new point system, customers actually are receiving less cash rewards than before. “Customers in Walgreens’ pharmacies used to be able to receive 100 points after purchasing prescriptions, now they don’t receive anything,” said Elam.

Although with the new change, Walgreens now offer curbside pick up. Curbside pick up is a great way for customers to save time, but it can be tedious to Walgreens’ employers. “The curbside pick up can be a hassle, because we must stop what we are doing to shop for customers outside of the store,” said Brooke Lindkay.

Walgreens still offer many in-store deals, but customers must first convert their Balance Rewards card to MyWalgreens before April 16, 2021 to get items for the sale price. If customers choose not to update their cards by April 16, then their old Balance Reward card won’t be useful and their points will not be able to roll over.
